Here is a  little  Hawaiian Story about this area  in regard to the island that looks like a Chainmen's hat the  offshore islet, Mokoli`i, is said actually to be a part of a tail  dragon-like creature. mythology says the goddess of bright light and Pele's younger sister, was on a voyage to visit a family on the north shore and along the Windward coast she came upon a large the lizard dragon.  they  mightily fought with the giant lizard and spared its life by only cutting off its tail  with spears of lightning. She then threw the tail into the water ocean..  landed in the ocean by Kualoa. The islet, today popularly referred to today as "Chinaman's Hat", because it looks like a Chinese hat to some.
