Photography backdrops and props add emotions to a photo.
If you want a more dramatic effect without changing the theme of the image, you
can actually use backgrounds with this. These supplements give a sense of
personal touch to the image thus making it unique.
Before, just the simple colors black
and white is the most popular backdrop especially when taking school portraits.
It is very easy to carry around with you. However, because it is dull colored,
it doesn’t give much emotion to the picture especially without the proper
lighting support. Because it is often monochromatic, the client is given only a
limited number of choices

In place of muslin, you can use many other alternatives as your formal
backdrop. You can use large rolls of colored and printed paper which are
commercially available. This material is obviously inexpensive and fairly easy
to transport. However, you have to choose the right size where your client will
fit in. Another negative thing about paper as a backdrop material is that it is
easily torn, and crumpled.
For a more dramatic effect, you can use a painted canvas as your backdrop.
This is more personalized and will create a more unique effect. Unlike paper
backdrops, these are much more durable and can be preserved for years. However,
since this is custom-made and what you are paying for here is talent, then it is
pretty obvious that this is really expensive.
Similar to muslin, you can use specially-designed fabrics and cloth. Make
sure that they don’t crease or crumple easily as this can affect the effect of
the shoot. This is really easy to transport as you just have to fold them and
you’re good to go!
However, if you ask professional photographers which background is the most
in-demand by clients, they are likely to say the most of them prefer natural
ambience. From this we can see that in spite the presence of the advances in
technology, there are still people who choose to have the “real” thing.
For example, if you are shooting indoors, you may not need a digital
background with this. You can just use the fireplace or the tiled or wood floor
as the backdrop. Or if you are working outdoors, you can just ask your client
for a certain location which has meaning for them. Getting your client to
participate in choosing the backdrop will mean a lot for them.
With the advent of digital photography and computer technology, photography
improved dramatically. Because almost everything is digitized, photography
backdrops and props included, pictures can end up quite uniquely. Clients can
now choose from a huge list of backdrops.
What is even much better with today’s digital photography is that it can be
successfully done by anyone. Imagine having the capability to stage your very
own photo shoot! All it takes is just a photo taken using your digital camera
and from there you can now personalize the whole thing. This just goes to show
that photography isn’t anymore exclusive to professionals. Thanks to photo
editing software, photography has never been this easy and fun to do
