There are factors that will greatly affect the quality of the photos you will take underwater. One factor is the transparency of the water and the depth of the water. Water is the very important factor to consider and is considered to be the biggest enemy for underwater photographers. Water causes loss of contrast and color which can degrade your photo results. Light is another factor to consider in taking underwater photos. There is also less light the deeper you go under the sea. Backscatter will also create complications for your photos. This happens when flash reflects particles in the water.

Being good in swimming is not enough but you must excel in it as well as be updated with deep-see diving techniques. After that, you must have good equipments and learn how to use them. There is a lot of risk that a photographer is facing when doing underwater photography so presence of mind as well are relying on instincts will definitely help.
