Hawaii Wedding Hotel Costs: What Oahu and Waikiki Hotels Really Cost
When couples ask me why some Hawaii weddings cost $50,000 or more, my honest answer is usually one word: hotels. The ceremony on the sand is often the smallest part of the bill. The biggest part is a week of resort rooms for the couple and their guests, plus taxes, resort fees and parking.
Here are the real 2025 hotel numbers for Oahu and Waikīkī, straight from the State of Hawaii, and simple ways to keep your hotel bill from swallowing your wedding budget.

Why the hotel bill is the biggest number
According to The Wedding Report, the average Hawaii wedding cost $53,369 in 2025, but the median was only $21,117. That means half of all couples spent less than $21,117. A smaller number of very large resort weddings pull the average way up. From what we see with our own couples, those very high budgets almost always include resort hotel stays for the couple and many of their guests. Our own couples usually spend even less, most of them in the $10,000 to $15,000 range.
Some resorts even build rooms into the wedding contract. At the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Big Island, for example, wedding packages come with a $15,000 to $20,000 food and beverage minimum and a minimum of ten room nights. For the full cost picture, see our Hawaii wedding stats page.
Oahu hotel prices by the numbers (2025)
The State of Hawaii tracks the average daily rate, the average price actually paid for one room for one night. Here is what hotels averaged for the whole year of 2025:
| Where | Average nightly rate, 2025 |
|---|---|
| Waikīkī hotels | $268 |
| All Oʻahu hotels | $284 |
| Oʻahu luxury hotels | $751 |
| All Hawaii hotels | $367 |
| Hawaii luxury hotels | $863 |
Waikīkī hotels were about 79% full across the year, so popular dates book up early. Holidays cost more too. In December 2025 alone, the average Waikīkī room was $312 a night, and Oʻahu luxury hotels averaged $993.

Taxes on top of the room rate
The nightly rate is not the final price. On Oʻahu, hotel rooms carry three taxes:
- 11% State Transient Accommodations Tax (raised from 10.25% on January 1, 2026)
- 3% City and County of Honolulu Transient Accommodations Tax
- 4.712% General Excise Tax, the most a business on Oʻahu can pass on to you
Together that is roughly 18.7% added to every room night. Many resorts also charge a daily resort fee and parking, so always ask for the total price before you book.
What a week can really cost
Here are a few simple estimates using the 2025 averages and about 18.7% in taxes. Your real price will depend on the hotel, the room and your dates.
- The couple, 7 nights in Waikīkī: about $1,877 before tax, about $2,230 with tax.
- The couple, 7 nights at an Oʻahu luxury hotel: about $5,254 before tax, about $6,240 with tax.
- Ten guest rooms for 5 nights in Waikīkī: 50 room nights, about $13,400 before tax, about $15,900 with tax.
Now compare that with the ceremony itself. Our Oahu beach weddings start at $350, and most beach packages run from $350 to $8,000. See all of our wedding prices.

Stay at the hotel, marry on the beach
You do not have to hold your wedding at your hotel to enjoy it. Many of our couples stay in Waikīkī and walk or drive a few minutes to a public beach for the ceremony. Hawaii’s beaches are open to everyone, so there is no venue fee and no catering minimum, just a State of Hawaii beach permit, which we take care of for you.
If you do want the resort experience, we plan Oahu hotel weddings too, including the Kahala Resort. After Jose proposed to Sheyla on Waialae Beach, they took photos on the resort’s golden orchid staircase. See their Kahala Resort proposal photos.

A real example: the Royal Hawaiian Hotel
Keith and Montse stayed at the Royal Hawaiian, the famous “Pink Palace of the Pacific” on Waikīkī Beach, and married at Waialae Beach Park in Kahala. It is a good example of what a luxury Waikīkī stay adds up to.
- Room rate: changes every day. Oʻahu luxury hotels averaged about $751 a night in 2025.
- Resort fee: about $61 a night per room.
- Parking: self parking $55 a day, valet $65 a day.
- Taxes: about 18.7% on the room.
For 5 nights, that is about $4,820 with tax, or about $5,150 with valet parking. These are estimates; always ask the hotel for your total.

Simple ways to save on your hotel
- Skip the holidays. Waikīkī averaged $312 a night in December 2025, compared with $268 for the year.
- Stay in Waikīkī, splurge for one night. A luxury room averaged $751 a night on Oʻahu in 2025. Book it for the wedding night only.
- Let guests book their own rooms. Guests can choose what fits their budget, and you avoid room-night minimums.
- Ask about group rates. Many hotels offer a room block for wedding guests.
- Ask for the total. Taxes, resort fees and parking can add a lot to the nightly rate.
- Choose a beach ceremony. No venue fee, no catering minimum, and the ocean is the backdrop.
