Michelle Sun and Richard Lin were married on the sand at Waialae Beach on March 22, 2007, at three in the afternoon. A Hawaiian minister led their ceremony under the palms, where the reef keeps the water calm and turquoise and the trade winds carry the scent of plumeria across the beach.
Their day had everything: a beach ceremony with family close by, a shower of flower petals, a limousine ride across the island and, best of all, a photo shoot that let them live out the old song “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” Our photographers met them at the airfield, where a gleaming white twin propeller plane stood waiting on the runway under a sky full of clouds.
Richard, in a crisp white captain’s shirt, knelt on the tarmac to kiss Michelle’s hand. Michelle, in her strapless gown and long white gloves, laughed as the wind caught her train. They kissed between the propellers, danced beside the wing and walked hand in hand toward the stairs, as if they were about to fly off to a honeymoon in the clouds.
This was one of the most original photo shoots we have ever planned, and it shows how a Hawaii wedding can be completely your own. Many of their ceremony, family and limousine photos from 2007 were lost over the years, and we hope to bring them back to this page one day. The photos below are the ones that survived, and they still make us smile.

A Kiss & a Pink Plumeria Bouquet
After the ceremony, Michelle and Richard found a quiet moment together. Her veil caught the light, her pearls glowed against her skin, and her bouquet of pink and white plumeria rested in Richard’s hand as they kissed.
