Golden first light, calm water and quiet beaches: sunrise is a magical time for wedding, engagement and vow renewal photos on Oahu’s east side.

Sunrise Wedding Photos in Hawaii
While sunset gets all the attention, sunrise may be the most peaceful time for photos in Hawaii. On Oahu’s east side the sun rises straight out of the ocean, painting the sky in soft pinks and gold. The beaches are quiet, the water is calm, the air is cool, and it feels as if you have the whole island to yourselves.
Our favorite sunrise spots are along the windward and southeast shores: the lava rocks of Makapuu with Rabbit Island and the lighthouse cliffs, the soft sand of Lanikai with the Mokulua islands offshore, and the long beaches of Waimanalo and Kailua. Naheshae and Damarus began their pre-wedding photo tour at sunrise at Makapuu before heading to Lanikai, and Karen and James welcomed the morning on the rocks at Makapuu.
A sunrise shoot is perfect for a pre-wedding or after-wedding photo tour, an engagement session, a proposal or a quiet vow renewal. We meet before first light so we are ready the moment the sky begins to glow, then follow the light as the sun climbs over the sea.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a sunrise photo shoot?
A sunrise photo shoot is $350 as an add-on to any wedding, vow renewal or proposal, the same as our sunset photo shoot.
Where are the best sunrise spots on Oahu?
The east side of the island, where the sun rises over the ocean: Makapuu, Lanikai, Waimanalo, Kailua and Hawaii Kai. Makapuu has Rabbit Island and the lighthouse cliffs, and Lanikai has the Mokulua islands offshore.
What time does a sunrise photo shoot start?
We meet before first light, usually about 30 minutes before sunrise, so we are set up when the sky starts to glow. Sunrise in Hawaii is roughly between 6 and 7 in the morning, depending on the season.
Why choose a sunrise photo shoot?
Soft golden light, calm water, cooler temperatures and quiet beaches with almost no one around, so your photos feel peaceful and private.
Can we have our ceremony at sunrise?
Yes. A sunrise ceremony or vow renewal on the east side is a beautiful, intimate way to begin your day, and it pairs well with a morning photo tour.
